Not One Less

Do you wish to get captivated by innocence???

Try this movie “Not One Less” by Yimou Zhang. I do not know about this movies existence and its was an accident… rather a fortunate accident. It’s too insipid in its presentation in the first few minutes as it shows a remote village in China.

But I wanted to watch how life unfolds in these corners of the world. I braced myself for boredom and lethargy and yet… I was pleasantly surprised and immeasurably fascinated.

A 13 year old girl so desperate to make a little money try to become an ad hoc teacher in a village school. She tries teaching students who are a little younger to her own self. She is not sure what to teach and how to manage. She seeks her own guidance from the little children around. She wanted to be responsible and earn her pay.

Her mentor a village chieftain asks her to take care of children as the only teacher wanted to avail leave of absence. The teacher after a few questions discovers that this young teacher is as ignorant as her own students. But wish to stay quite as he would lose his opportunity of freedom. So he tells her that she must retain the students in the same number after he comes back. Not even one less…

The girl takes these words to her heart and suddenly confronts real life dilemmas as one of the sports authority official comes and grab a girl who is a fast runner. He promises her better education in athletes’ school in capital with benefits. Her hopes of earning a little money were sabotaged right before her eyes.

Next day one of her student turns up not. When she reached his home, his ailing mother told her that he went to city to earn a few bucks. Bearing this no more she tries every idea that enters her tiny head to get that student back.

She walks all the way to city and knows not what to do next and where to search. An idea to get her plea displayed on Television stuck her and she adamantly tries entering a TV studio. Her advances are naturally discouraged and even threatened. Her will to make her appearance on TV to locate the student makes her noticed by TV station director. He takes her inside and arranges for a brief transmission of her please…

Her words… mumbled though trembling lips as her eyes gushing tears… Just ask that boy to come back home.

You will love this Move… If wish to know more…
